The Old Kirby Place is on the banks of the legendary Madison River.

Named by explorers Lewis & Clark in honor of future president James Madison, the river is designated a Blue Ribbon fishery. This official designation is reserved for recreational fisheries of extremely high quality, based on a criterion that takes into account the quality and quantity of the water, accessibility, natural reproduction capacity, angling pressure and specific species of fish.

Being "On the Madison" makes The Old Kirby Place unique among fly fishing lodges. The proximity of this world-famous Blue Ribbon Trout River with the historic Hutchins Bridge puts The Old Kirby Place in the center of activities in the upper Madison River Valley.
